What is AWS Summit Japan?

AWS Summit Japan is one of the country's largest cloud and AI learning events. Each year, it draws tens of thousands of attendees—from beginners to experts—to explore the latest AWS technologies, services, and innovations. The Summit features over 160 sessions covering topics like cloud architecture, AI/ML, security, serverless computing, and data analytics. Alongside these sessions, more than 270 exhibitors—including AWS partners and solution providers—showcase cutting-edge tools and products.

It's the perfect place to connect with the AWS community, hear from industry leaders, and discover how cloud technology is driving transformation across industries in Japan and beyond.

On June 26, 2025, I attended AWS Summit Japan 2025 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, representing Tagbangers where I work as a DevOps Engineer. As an AWS Community Builder and someone deeply interested in cloud tech, it was a great chance to connect with others, learn new things, and soak up the energy of all the innovation happening around us.

First Impressions

Walking into the venue, the energy hit me right away. The expo halls were buzzing with conversations, the sessions were packed, and everywhere I turned there were people exchanging ideas and enthusiasm. Honestly, it felt more like a festival celebrating cloud innovation than your typical tech conference.

Sessions & Keynotes

One thing that really stood out was how much focus there was on industries like automotive and IoT — showing how they're using AWS to do some pretty amazing things. The DataOps sessions in particular gave me fresh perspectives on how connected cars and IoT devices feed into cloud analytics to build smarter, data-driven products.

AWS For Automotive

There were also inspiring talks about AI advancements and serverless architectures — showing how developers are building faster, more scalable apps — all while keeping costs down.

Hearing from AWS Japan's new President & CEO, Akihiko Shirohata, gave a sense of the company's strong commitment to supporting innovation here. Plus, leaders from Nomura Research Institute, Ltd. (NRI), Anthropic, and Mitsubishi Electric shared real examples of how generative AI and purpose-built large language models are already being used in Japan. It was cool to see these big names driving cloud and AI forward locally.

The community stage was a real highlight for me too. As an AWS Community Builder, it's always inspiring to hear peers talk about their projects and the lessons they've learned. That spirit of sharing and collaboration really stood out.

Expo Highlights

The expo floor was packed with interesting booths. A few things I enjoyed:

  • Automotive + IoT demos showing real-time data flowing from connected vehicles.
  • AWS Partner solutions ranging from AI analytics to next-gen security tools.
  • I got to talk directly with the teams behind ECS and EKS, which was a rare chance to hear firsthand how those services are evolving.
  • And of course, chatting with folks from Red Hat, GitLab, Datadog, Snowflake, Palo Alto Networks, Jamf, HashiCorp Terraform, Okta and Prometheus + Grafana was great — catching up on their latest updates and roadmap plans.

Key Takeaways

If there was one clear message throughout the day, it's this:

AI and data are shaping the future of innovation. From manufacturing to services, companies are rapidly adopting AI-driven automation and decision-making.

At the same time, serverless technology is helping developers move faster and scale without hassle.

For me, this means continuing to dive deep into AWS services and tools that support AI, data workflows, and serverless architectures — it's where the real growth is happening.

Fun Moments

Not everything was all work and no play! I actually won a Serverless Coffee — talk about the perfect pick-me-up. Plus, networking with AWS engineers, community builders, and partners was incredibly rewarding. Meeting so many passionate people always recharges my motivation.

Final Thoughts

AWS Summit Japan 2025 gave me a real sense of where cloud tech and AI are headed — especially here in Japan. Hearing from top leaders, seeing innovative projects, and sharing experiences with the community left me inspired and excited to apply what I've learned at Tagbangers.

Looking forward to next year already!

See you at AWS Summit Japan 2026!
